Welcome back to Monday! First thing in the morning we went to Home Ec. Some of us had to work while others had to cook these really good Pizza Pop things. They had cheese, pizza sauce and pepperoni in them. After that, we had recess. Most kids played Four Square, while other kids played soccer. First thing back from recess, we read at silent reading until 11:00 then we talked about the internet. We made a list of things the web is for. What is the web for to you? After lunch we played Sim City 4. Half of us went on Google Earth. We got to look at cities around the world to see how they are. Recess!! Multiplication facts came next. Mr. Fisher said we have to know our multiplication facts up to 12 because it is a mastery skill for grade 7/8. Frontier School Division sent us standardized math tests to the grades 4-8. We have to write these math tests to see what we know. The grade 4 has to write the grade 4 part, the grade 5 has to write the grade 4 and 5 part, the grade 6 has to write the grades 4,5 and6 parts, and so on. It sucks to be the grade 8`s!! When we were done our tests we had silent reading until we had to go home. What book are you reading right now?

September 22 day 5

Hey it’s 9:00! Thats the time we always start school. Every morning we start it off with singing our anthem, O Canada.Silent Reading was next, and some people had to learn to be SILENT while reading! I always thought silent reading was supposed to be silent…

Well, ELA was ok. We had to make up questions after reading and highlighting What The Web is For. Who had fun at recess? Well I did and so did my friend, we played soccer…

At 10:30 we had Social Studies. We were working on countries around the world. We all had to pick 2 countries to write about, but it couldn’t be Canada or the USA. We all picked different countries, some people picked Egypt, some people picked Mexico. It is 11:45 and lunch was waiting to be eaten. Everyone had to go outside after they finished eating, some people got to stay inside and have book club at the library.

Right after lunch, we had Gym, and we were playing Volleyball. OK, are you ready for this? One side won. Then the other side won. That’s it. Were you ready? You shouldn’t have read it until you were…

 ELA again wow that is twice in one day! We wrote some letters to ourselfs and we are opening them in June. Yeah, I know. Sounds fun right? Hip-hip-hooray!

2:o5, It’s recess again! Yay! More soccer! Duh duhduh duuuuuh! MATH YAY…  We did rates. What are rates, you ask? Well, they are what you’ve always dreamed of. Rates are actually a comparison of two numbers with different units. A speed of 60 km per hour is a rate. It can be written as 60 km:1 h. The numbers are 60 and 1, and the units are km and h. A rate is usually written as a unit rate, in which the second term is 1.

Sept. 21st day 5

This morning in home ec, we did book work instead, of cooking because our teacher wasn’t their, we had a substitute teacher. After home ec we had recess we just sit their and talk to our friends till we have to go home. Then we had silent reading. After silent reading usually do some ELA and learn about some new things. When we are done with ELA ,we go for lunch.  In the lunchroom we sit and talk with our friends while eating, then we have to sit their until we go outside.  After lunch we do some Social Studies and learned about some things, then we had to do Math.  We do the math from the textbooks. After math class we went outside and sat by the stairs and hung out with our friends. When we get inside After we read, and watched a Nine eleven video an we saw the twin towers being destroyed by planes and fire and crashed down. We read a story about a kid that’s name was Osama.  It was about how he was being bullied and got suspended.  He pushed a kid into a locker and made him bleed.  The principal got someone to check his locker for weapons.  His principal talked to him about his last name, and how he would like to change it. Then the principal decided to suspend him for two weeks or so.At the end of the day we clean up and discuss what we did in math. Then our teacher tells us to get ready and clean up before the bell rings, Then we all go home.

September 16 Day 1

The first period we had silent reading, where we read our books. After we read our books we help the grade 7′s set up blogs, and their Google accounts so they could do work on the computer and not waste much paper. After that  we went for recess and had some fun. We didn’t get finished setting up blogs and Google accounts, so we finished setting up them, and some people got to play on their Google accounts when they were finished because other people had to to finish setting up blogs and their accounts for Google. So some people played on there igoogle accounts after they were done being set up.

After we finished setting up our blogs and Google accounts, we had lunch (yummy). After our tasty lunch we had social studies. We played this game were you had to toss the ball to some one and they had to say a Canadian symbol ( flag, beaver, moose, etc) or we had to say a Canadian value ( freedom, peace, freedom of press, etc). After everyone said one we had to sit down, if the symbol or value was called then we could not say it. After we played that game we did countries around the world. This kid in our class Parker like owned everyone, we had to name countries around the world ( like china, Canada, U.S.A, U.K, etc) and we named  50 of the countries. After we had to name the continents where the countries are in, and he named mostly all of the continents, Except for  maybe three of the continents.  So he like owned everyone in the class. Now it was recess where we had more fun. After recess we now had gym, where we played about a half an hour of dodge ball and about an hour of volleyball. We played two games of dodge ball, where one time one side won, then the other time the other side won ( it was totally out of luck), and so it was a fair game. We only played one game of volleyball, so only one side got to win, but we had a little time left so we played a game with who ever one 5 points won. But that time the other side won ( so it was kind of a fair game). But we all had fun any way. Well that was our day, hoped you liked it.

September 15, Day six

This morning, at around 9:05 we went to home ec. Most of us cooked, and some of us had to do work. Then when they were done cooking, the everyone got to eat some of the food. After Home Ec, we went outside for recess.

We came in and started reading reading our books for about 10 minutes until we were called down for bus evacuation. We learned how to evacuate a bus if we were ever in an accident. Anyways, after we finished that, we went back to class and continued reading for about another 10 minutes. After, the grade eights helped the grade sevens set up their blog on wordpress.com because we already had our blogs. We basically just played around on our wordpress blogs until  it was lunch time.

When we were finished lunch we continued playing around with our blogs. And some people wrote an introductory blog post. Then, the grade sevens made their iGoogle accounts. To make an  iGoogle acount you have to go to google.com or ca the click sight in it should be in the top right corner click on it. Scroll down click on create a iGoogle account and then put in the username etc. Then go to the email click on the link to iGoogle then you got them. You can change your background, add games and stuff like that. It’s easy to add games and stuff, because all you need to do is press “Add Stuff” and it shows you a list of things you can add to your homepage. Plus you can change the appearance  of you igoogle too.

We had our afternoon recess, at around 2:05. After recess, we took out the smart board and were learning about how it works. The smart board is connected to a computer and he projector projects the computer onto the smart board. The smart board is like a big touch screen and it has these special markers for it to write on it with. We played some little game on it that had to do with he map of the world. When we were done, it was 3:30.

September 14, Day 5

The first period we did was silent reading  from 9:00 to 9:30 am. After that we read the, “Is your junk detector turned on?” From the pieces of paper we read. We learned that, everything from the internet is not always true. Example- “Did you know that aliens caused global warming ?” We know for sure that that  is not true , what so ever.  To know it’s the truth you could be creative we can learn from writers, animators or even movie producers. If you were done all that you could finish the sheet on,evaluating information online. We took two sites from the idea hive site , and wrote why you think the facts are all  fake or real.

After break we through a ball and we had to name some symbols and values off the top of your head, you cannot look at a paper or anything. You have to pick something like hockey, freedom or speech, or even freedom. We had to make a chart on symbols , and values in Canada. Example- Symbols would be something like a beaver, because you can touch and feel it, and for values you would have because you can see it , and imagine it. Right after that we got a map and we labeled some continents, so an example would be North America, or even Canada. So we labeled , and coloured the whole thing even the oceans.

After lunch we have to come back around 12:30 , and the buzzed actually rings at 12:45. Anyways , we went to gym, we changed into our gym clothes , and set up the volley ball net. Before we did volleyball we had to do  22 stretches, the only reason we did so much , is because we have 22 students and every student picks a stretch to do. After we were all stretched we passed the ball back a fourth doing sets , and then bumps. Before we had to change , we did I think 5 minutes of serving back and forth. After all that we changed into our clothes, we came to the classroom , we were supposed to do french , but instead we did mind maps.

Well it’s almost the end of the day this is the last period of the day. We are still were doing mind maps till 3:30 pm.  A mind map I kinda  like a web but you have a whole bunch of pictures with it! , instead of  just with lines , and words like a web. It’s just about the same thing but with pictures of the words that are coming out of your groups that you picked.

The First Hive Scribe

On September 13th in first period we went to Home Economics working on the 3 meal plan to follow the Canada’s Food Guide to have the perfect diet. After that we worked on a few more meal plans on what we can find in nature exept we could get one meal from somewhere else. We also had to make a days worth of meal plan that we can personally cook. There was another one that we had to make, we had to make a days worth of food if your babysitting a six-year old to make sure he gets all the food groups.

Next period we had E.L.A firstly we started off this peroiod like we always do by silent reading. Next we worked on the “Real or False” websites worksheet  that we have been working on since Friday.  That was basicly it for the morning.

Then later in S.S we talked about a  quote that is “Freedom isn’t Free” and another quote “My Rights to Swing my Arms Stop Where Your Nose Begins”  which all ties into  Canadian Rights and Responsibilities on a worksheet on “What it means to be Canadian?”

On the last period was math we watched a video of Mr.Fishers friend on an escalator to see if that is faster then stairs. And worked on problems about the concepts of that subject kind of like the ticket problems that we worked on friday. After we worked on that we worked on the mind mapping that we have been working on since Thursday we had to think of 50 words to do with math which was for homework due today. After we finished that we worked on the actual mind map planning. We started working on the mind maps after all of that till the end of the day organizing and and planning and even colouring the poster that we made about math and mind mapping.

Scribe Blog

Do you know what a scribe is?

In the past (and still in some places today) a scribe was an important role to have in society. Scribes were people who had the skills of reading and writing when few people did. Scribes wrote letters for people when they couldn’t do it themselves. As well, scribes were people who read for those who had difficulty doing it themselves.

A scribe blog is this same type of thing. Each day someone will be responsible for writing a scribe post. The scribe post will outline the important lessons and learnings from the day. The author might talk about what we did in math class and outline the formulas we worked with. They might recount a discussion we had in class or a major event that happened. As time goes by, this scribe blog becomes a journal, a history and a place to study from if you forget something. Can’t remember a formula we used in class? Look it up here?
